IAEM 2026 at a Glance

The IAEM Annual Conference & EMEX is the International Association of Emergency Managers’ flagship event. It brings together emergency managers from local, state, federal, tribal, healthcare, university, and private sector organizations. This year’s theme is “Charting through Preparedness: Anchored in Resilience.”

The core program runs Monday through Wednesday, with pre-conference training Friday through Sunday and post-conference training on Thursday. EMEX, the exhibit hall, is where attendees see the technology behind modern preparedness and response.

For BSS, this one is close to home. Our headquarters is in Pasadena, about 30 miles north of the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center.

What BSS Is Showcasing: Three Platforms, Five New Features

At IAEM 2025 in Louisville, emergency managers told us they were done asking whether to adopt technology. They wanted to know which tools would fit their operations and hold up when lives are on the line. The five features we are bringing to Long Beach answer that directly.

New in BSS Guardian™: Teams and Events

BSS Guardian™ is our web-based emergency preparedness platform. It combines occupant training, customized response procedures, interactive maps, and compliance reporting. Two new features extend it from preparing individuals to managing the people and activities that make up a building’s safety program.

• Teams. Teams is a living operational roster with assigned roles, training evidence, and a membership audit trail. You can see who is on your emergency team, what each person is responsible for, and proof that they have been trained. When people join or leave, the record shows it.
• Events. Invite. Train. Track. Events is how admins invite people to what is happening at the building, and how teams get to live trainings with attendance captured by QR code. No paper sign-in sheets, and no guessing afterward about who was in the room.

New in BSS First Responder™: Password-less Login, Procedures, and Incidents

BSS First Responder™ is our incident response app for iOS and Android. It puts building systems information, interactive floor plans, and team communication in responders’ hands, with or without an internet connection. Three additions make it faster to open and more structured to use.

• Password-less login. Responders get into the app faster, because nobody should be recovering a password during an incident.
• Procedures. A consistent, repeatable, measurable response process, so the quality of a response does not depend on who happens to be on shift.
• Incidents. Real-time incident response tracking with after-action reporting, giving leadership greater visibility into how each response unfolded.

BSS Archangel™

BSS Archangel™ rounds out the suite. It is an asset-protection system that consolidates documentation of critical building systems, trains engineering, security, and facilities staff, and supports rapid response to equipment malfunctions and disasters.
